The webinar “Shaping the Future of Cultural Heritage” organised by the European Commission was very well attended with over 450 participants on the day and further viewings on YouTube after the event.

The webinar starts with an introduction from Katja Reppel (DG RTD), the session moderator.

The first presentation from Rickard Bucksch (DG RTD) explains the vision and the background of the ECCCH initiative. He outlines the three Calls, the first which resulted in ECHOES. There will be around 20 projects over the next five years. Rickard concludes with some references to reports and fact sheets which provide further details.

Fulgencio Sanmartin provides an overview of the common European data space for cultural heritage in the 2nd presentation, which outlines the end users needs and focus on 3D contributions as well as governance.

Bertil Egger Beck talks about the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) in the 3rd presentation. This is a federation of nodes across Europe that enables around 2m researchers to work with digital objects (e.g. software, data, reports etc.) and that adhere to the FAIR data principles. The EOSC tripartite governance is also explained and the involvement of the EC and the EOSC EU Node. There are potential options for the Cultural Heritage Cloud in EOSC for the future.

The presentations are followed by a panel discussion with Xavier Rodier (ECHOES coordinator), Harry Verwayen (Europeana), Peter Szegedi (EOSC EU Node) and who addressed the many questions posted in Slido from participants.
